A. Spiritual transformation is a “daily” activity (2 Cor. 4:16).
1. While a “decision” to repent is where spiritual renewal begins, it is the “process” of daily walking with God that brings about the desired results (Acts 3:19).
2. Since the Christian is the “temple” of God today (1 Cor. 3:16), Old Testament temple worship gives us insights into how everything was performed by the priests (Christians today; 1 Pet. 2:5, 9). See Lev. 6:12-13; Ex. 30:7-8; 1 Chron. 23:28-30.
3. It is God providing our daily bread (especially daily spiritual bread) that sustains us (Mt. 6:11).
B. We need to take time for God “daily” to allow Him through His Spirit to bring about our sanctification (1 Pet. 1:2).
1. He (God) examines us daily (Job 7:17-18).
2. Fortunately, His mercies are new every morning (Lam. 3:22-23).
3. Jesus understood the importance of early morning time with God (Mk. 1:35).
4. The Holy Spirit longs to bring every thought we have into obedience to Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).
C. Through “daily” spiritual discipline (what disciples do), we provide God the space to accomplish His purposes in our lives.
1. Jesus wants daily communion with His people. See Revelation 3:20 for an example of Jesus’ longing to fellowship with His “brothers” and “sisters.”
2. God wants daily opportunity to “transform” us into the image of Jesus (Rom. 8:29; 12:1-2).
3. God wants daily the right to guide us into His will for us that day (Eph. 5:17). (Especially for us to see the doors He opens for us through which we can expand His Kingdom; Col. 4:3).
D. Daily and weekly practices by which spiritual formation occurs:
1. Daily meditation (Ps. 1:1-3).
2. Daily Bible study (Acts 17:11).
3. Daily prayer (1 Thess. 5:17).
4. Weekly fasting (from food or other items) (Mt. 6:16-18).
5. Daily living a life of “simplicity.”
6. Daily/weekly practice of stewardship—giving to others (Lk. 16:25; Eph. 4:28).
7. Daily/weekly fellowship with other “believers.” (Acts 2:42-46).
8. Daily/weekly confession of sins (accountability) (James 5:16).
9. Daily worship.
10. Daily/weekly service to others (Mk. 10:41-45).
11. Evangelism—making “disciples” of others (Mt. 28:19-20).
